I am a Philadelphia-born video artist, director, producer, MAKEUP ARTIST, set and costume designer, writer, animator, and illustrator working within the underground experimental music and film community.
I make THINGS with minimal resources. I make my own sets, costumes, props, animation, and imagery using found materials and practical construction methods. I am drawn to things that feel MYSTERIOUS AND IMPERFECT. IT’S AMAZING WHAT THE HUMAN MIND CAN COOK UP! My practice developed through necessity and has remained rooted in a long-standing DIY approach, making maximalist, difficult, and elaborate things with whatever TOOLS ARE available.
Using a self-aware lens that is reliant on fantasy and chaos, I absorb the viewer into a saccharine world. There is something more, some underlying, unconscious disease that my work has no choice but to confess beneath the rich ornament. When we focus deeply, we find a path to our own subconscious. vital illusions are broken to expose obsessive portraits of humanity; dazzling monuments to self destruction. The unraveling of limerence to reveal the clumsy, pitiful and beautiful moments of being alive. It is not an easy reality to face, but it is one that I explore with my tongue in my cheek and with respect to the fragility of human experience.
I am also the founder of 1-800-HOT-DUCK, a traveling video curation project presenting experimental, UNTRADITIONAL, and otherwise hard-to-find VIDEO ART in UNDERGROUND venues and spaces around the world. MY video and curatorial work has been presented internationally, including at The Horse Hospital in London, with artist residencies at Wedding Cake House in Providence, RI and Lakkos in Heraklion, Crete.
